Student Involvement & Leadership

Student Involvement & Leadership exists to provide intentional experiences outside of the classroom that prepare UAB students to serve, inspire and lead.

Our Services:

Student Organizations
UAB is home to approximately 380 student organizations that support a variety of interests. UAB supports the creation of student organizations whose purposes and activities enhance the social, cultural, recreational and educational functions of the University.

Leadership Development
Student Involvement and Leadership values and encourages all forms of leadership to cultivate an inclusive, socially responsible and vibrant campus community. All students are capable of leading and should develop an understanding and application of leadership, with or without a title.

Service and Outreach
UAB students strive for excellence through innovation and service. Through community-engaged programming and volunteerism, UAB students become conscientious citizens and grow as leaders through service.

Student Government
USGA aims to represent the undergraduate student body by advocating for student interests and empowering the student voice. We provide opportunities to influence both their academic and social experiences at UAB. In order to accomplish our mission, USGA leaders work closely with faculty and administration to propel both short- and long-term student goals. In addition to policy work, USGA works on services, programs, and funds distribution to student organizations in order to develop and foster a more collaborative UAB community.

Sorority and Fraternity Life
UAB’s sororities and fraternities are diverse organizations that allow students to find a home away from home during their time at UAB. These organizations focus on scholarship, service and philanthropy, leadership, campus involvement and brotherhood/sisterhood.

Major Campus Events
The programming boards within Student Activities enhance the co-curricular experience with innovative campus programs that foster leadership development, collaboration and connection to campus. Experts recommend two hours of studying for every hour spent in class. Doctors recommend eight hours of sleep a night. That leaves 67 hours to sit around and get bored—or to get out and do something exciting with all that UAB has to offer.
